diem (2019) is an open-ended narrative, created out of everyday interactions in workplace environments.
The film explores of the idea of institution; the individuals that operate within them and the architectural space they occupy. Exploring a wide range of institutions including civic, legal, educational, and third sector. The film is not narrated but takes an observational documentary approach to capture the unwritten structures of an institution and the non-verbal interactions, seeking out the poetic in the seemingly ordinary and mundane.
diem was filmed at Cardiff, the capital city of a Wales and the administrative centre of a small nation. Institutions featured in the film include Capital Law, Cardiff Metropolitan University School of Art and Design, Temple of Peace and Glamorgan Archives, institutions linked through ideas of archive, law, research and education within both established and contemporary structures.
